Hi, i'm considering fitting a lambretta barrel onto some P2 casings. I've been told one option is create a very large packer (20mm +-) at the base of the barrel/casings. This would bolt to the casings and new threaded holes with barrel studs would be sited onto the packer (sounds easy enough  ).

This means i'll have to fit a new 20mm longer con rod. So the question is "what con rods are available to meet this spec ?" The packer thickness isn't too critical and can be suited to the con rod, providing there's enough meat left to fit the barrel studs.

All replies welcome..... :)

Would have to measure a P2 but I used T5 casings for the TS1.
From the centre of the crank to the base gasket face the T5 casing is longer than a Lammy, I used a 120 rod and had to take 7mm off the bottom of barrel.
That would work out that to use a 20mm packer it would need a 140mm rod.

thing is though ,is there any real benefit from all the cost and hassle of these conversions ..is it a cost effective way of getting more power and performannce ?
i admire the engineering involved ,who wouldnt but is it really worth the effort or is it just for the novelty value

Fair point Sean. My thinking is most kits for Vespas tend to be high revving, but with the Lambretta kits there are more low revving options available.

I'm sure this won't be everyone cup of tea but i'm hoping it will be a reasonably priced bit of engineering that will give different results to the "standard" kitted Vespas

When I built mine 10 years ago there was a few reasons...

The best Vespas around were low 20hp.
I had the equipment to do it.
Was told whatever I do to a P Range, it'll never beat a TS1.

Nowdays it seams that theres 30hp Malossis on every street corner and nothing will beat a long stroke T5.

The Polini is pretty low revving so unless you have a burning desire for a conversion of that ilk why bother?

All points are appreciated but......once the TS1 was introduced why bother with the Rapido, RB's, Muggellos, Monzas, Imolas, Avanti's, the new MB 200 kit and the Gt kit and others.........The market for the Large block Vespa does not have range that the lambretta does.....just trying to level the playing fields and yes....it is a bit for the challenge and the novelty factor

I did some work on some casings about 5 years ago.
LML reed casings, P2 crank, Malossi 172 T5 barrel. Would make a 190cc.
Packer bolted to casing and barrel studs into packer.

Looks nicely engineered, that's the type of mod' i'm thinking about (albeit with a lambretta barrel).
