Oneupmanship? That could well possibly be just in the mind of the beholder.
In the mind of the on looker being the first to have the latest must have could be seen as something completely different :D But, as its all just a matter of opinion at the moment and opinions don't mean a thing only time will tell. :bigsm:

They were good machines,loved mine but got it at a time i was a bit down,depressed!! Not a good idea.People go on about a quick Bretta and i used to too but this was totally different,the acceleration was just mental especially when the temp guage was reading half way....it was happy then.

I suppose that the theory is good, ie you can keep it on the boil easier, the engine Im putting in my bike engined Lambretta build is 125 7speed, that was the same, great once up the revs and the valve opened, just keep shifting, revs drop by about 500rpm I think from memory, ideal for small buzzy high revving engines

but flippin hell thats a lot of money for a gearbox in a lambretta, especially if I read right and they only rated or tested to 25bhp, the serious people that might want to take use of the close ratio would be over that and are they then risking blowing a load of money :(
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!

After years of spinning wrenches and hanging on to handlebars the old wrist are getting a little worn out nowadays. Much prefer an SX or TV box so's the gears don't have to be changed as often and tune/build accordingly
That's not going anywhere...

Thing is we've all re-tuned our bretta kits to the 4 speed box. So it is not instantly attractive.

BUT if you look at the 'power-drop' graph in the article closely, you see how much of your (4 speed) tune is going to waste. Also you also see how any kit would work so much better on this gearing with out the need for the 're-tune' to developmore torque to overcome the gear/rpm band limitations. The scootering 'graph' is over complex as it is overlays two runs, it is also too small to analyse at first sight. It also uses an un-typical LI125 box on the standard example with short 1-2 gap long 3-4 ratios But if you spend 20mins 'unravelling' what it represents, then you see the gain, or better said 'lack of drops in power delivery': I bet it is a joy to ride.

I would not get all the benefit on my 250 Special from it either in it's current form, as I also re-tuned for a 4 speed box. Neither can I afford that price tag. Would not mind one though!

Good luck to the maufacturer and those who backed it, but even the Mighty(& very Sucessfull) Tino Satchi had a go at doing this as well as others and never managed to get it right!!!....

I really hope it's robust as it's the upgrade that gives everything and probably needs riding to fully appreciate.

The benefit from significantly increased overlap can't be underestimated.

It may be that some of the bigger capacity 30BHP+ motors can cope with a 4-speed box but for a standard or modestly tuned motor, this would have a real benefit.

This shows the comparison between the standard cyclone and an SX200 box - I know which one I'd rather ride.............
