Vapour blast, then lightly scuff surface prior to welding to remove top layer of oxidised surface, wire brush with a stainless steel brush just prior to welding, and don't put greasy fingers back on the case after cleaning...

Lam, strange one really, hairline crack opened up running next to the engine numbers on top of the case. Its very fine but oil pisses out when it gets hot. Tried some aircraft grade liquid metal and it lasted about 2 weeks. No option now but to get it welded hence having to get it nice and clean. Ended up using gunk and the pressure washer :D

Thought while i was at it i would get all the things i either bodged or put off first time round done. Puting a 5 plate in, as the current 4 plate is slipping bad, weld shortened runners on and then re-spray the lot.......Was hoping to get it done in time for Holland at the end of the month, but that aint gonna happen... :(

Yep, what J1MS said. Vapor/dry ice blasting. It will look like it has just rolled off the Innocenti factory line when finished. Cheap, non-abrasive and environmentally friendly too..does it get any better!

Well it could, we could have new cases rolling off the Innocenti factory line.
And that's not going to happen...or is it..... :smug:

No vapour blasting as the case is polished, but does sound the way to go for standard restos.. :o
