Where the exhaust pipe stud goes into the main casing the thread is exposed a little underneath the casing resulting in the oil leaking. I've not taken the cover off yet but looking for a quick fix and I'm thinking welding is not an option. As I said I'm looking for a quick fix.

I presume you mean the stud that goes through the side case and into the engine case, in which case the gasket should seal the 2 halves together, maybe a cork gasket might seal it for you, also fit the stud with stud lock to lock and seal it in place

are you talking of a barrel/cylinder stud or the the 8mm thread under the crankcase or the two crankcase side 8mm studs?

The end of the tail pipe, the longer stud. I can see its thead under the main casing and that's where the oil is leaking from.

That's lowest point of the engine so not necessarily where the leak is....

Point taken Mick but I can see the hole and the thread of the stud. Someone has suggested that white plumbers tape so will give that a try.

Thats usually the stud that pulls out,I have a case that has done that. What I've done is remove the side case and helicoil the thread. Its resulted in a permanent and strong repair.

Use some liquid gasket on the stud to seal the hole.
