Hello all,

What is the recommended timing for a p200 with a lightly tuned standard barrel? The original spec is 23 degrees but that was presumably set in the good old days of full-fat, man's petrol rather than the crap we get now.

The 'A' mark corresponds to 23 degrees and the 'IT' mark corresponds to 18 degrees

I`ve ran on `IT`18 deg for years.

always relied on the casing and marks on geniune piaggio stators without fail
Not sure that can be said forthe glut of cheap ones available.

Agree with Gaz IT mark 18degrees
Run it also with a NGK B8 or a B9 for hard motorway use

Would that timing (18*) apply to a PX125 engine?

px125/150 were originally set at 18 (IT) - in this good old days - I would nt have a clue what they are now what with the restrictions they come with a stock.

I measured everything very carefully, strobed it all up and concluded that the IT mark was pretty much spot on 18 degrees. I thought I'd better check as it's an old ducati flywheel and a BGM stator.

always ran my standard P200E"s on 23*, or the A mark, bog standard, even the exhaust (only a T5 4th gear fitted) never had a problem . mildly tuned , the HB200 I had on, ran that at 18, or the IT mark. as gaz says, wouldn't know now, , as they have a different ignition fitted these days, made by Kokosan I think, with 12 coils on the stator, and a rev limiter built in and suchlike.

Always run it 23 standard/standardish scoots but jetted correctly, same on my Lambretta's.
