There's more thread inside the hole and I kind of feel it should go all the way home.
As both parts are alloy I'm very reluctant try to force it in further.
can anyone confirm if it should go in further than this?

I recently acquired this old Taffspeed hydraulic conversion backplate and slave. It screws in nicely by hand but stops hard at this point.
There's more thread inside the hole and I kind of feel it should go all the way home.
As both parts are alloy I'm very reluctant try to force it in further.
can anyone confirm if it should go in further than this?

Not sure who did mine (it came with the bike) but it bolts up flush
I would be thinking the same as you about it been flush but might be worth a pm to Ian F there might be good reason.

Not heard anything back, but after a couple of hours diddling with a 1.5 pitch tap and some emery paper I managed to get it screwed all the way home, which is lot more encouraging.

Yes it is supposed to fit flush & with the M7 bleed nipple exiting rearward from the slave unit.
Cleaning up the threads will help.
The seals & piston unit is 36mm Dia from a 4 pot BLMC Mini Metro brake calliper.

@ Ian, many thanks for the confirmation. I'm out of the country right now but if I remember correctly now it's screwed right home and the bleed nipple faces to the rear, albeit at the bottom rather than the top which is kind of where I expected.
@ RIC - I have a thread file but buggered up the 1.5 pitch trying to sort a layshaft thread, layshaft harder than file :-/...can you recommend a good one?

Now, does anyone know where I can get a long bleed nipple for it?
A standard one doesn't bottom out before the thread runs out so won't seal. Suggestions?

70's and early 80's big Guzzi's had 6mm fine bleed nipples in their Brembo calipers. They were also available in stainless into the 90's at least, probably still are on specialist sites. They are quite long.

There is/was a grumpy old git up in the wilds near Bradford, who used to make them. A trawl in old bike mags may unearth him. Dave something.
There are a few German Guzzi sites that offer what is now more difficult to come by Brembo stuff.
