I have just started my engine after a full rebuild (1st one for me). A small block with a 200 alloy top end, The engine has been fully rebuilt with new bearings/crank etc. It was a right git to start though.

To be sure every thing was ok was I put the engine in my running scoot to know electrics / cdi was all okay.It must of took 50 kicks with no joy.I couldn't bump it as the gear control cables where all knckered and couldn't find my spares  . It felt as if it was kicking okay for the first kick then the next two kicks didn't feel quite right ??? As if the engine wasn't turning over properly. I took the rubber hose of and finally got it running okay. Then put the ruuber hose back on and it fires up okay every time now :D :D :D with no issue when kicking it off at all now and feels very positive each kick. The engine was built about three months ago and left with no oil in it. The clutch plates where reused as they was only a few weeks old when the engine was stripped.

Is this down to every thing being tight, So once running it has loosend things off. Or could it be some thing more sinister

Just got to fine tune the timing and new cable inners.

Thanks for any replys Gaz.

If its firing up ok now it has finnaly run I wouldn't worry about it.
Thanks for that Eden. Its set my mind at rest. Hopefully when I try tommorow it will start fist kick  Wanted to give it a run once the cables are changed.

Finally got back in the garage after a bout of man flu  . The fault was the stator was catching the flywheel

I didnt find out until trying to bump start it a piece of black plastic flew out of the flywheel :o Once stroipped down the stator is fu**ed. Put one off another enginge and its spot on with no clearance issues. The stator that is knackered and the flywheel was a cheap one of Ebay It looks as if the stator wasn't sat properly making it protrude more than normal. With that and my lack of experiance means the ebay kit wasn't that cheap in the end

Has any one else had similar happen ???

i assume you mean the pick-up ?? if so yes a common prob .. some have 1mm milled from the mag flange .. or others preffer to have the inside face of fly wheel skimmed ..usually as a precaution .. unfortunate that you found out the hard way .. such is life
