the lammy, cold, with choke on, it bursts into life first kick, but it burbles and if I open the throttle it dies. It will rev normally after 30 seconds. Any ideas? too big pilot?

If it revs alright after 30 seconds it isn't the idle just it is most probably the choke jet size but either way what you are describing is completely normal for a cold start on a choke, even my NC30's do it.
As a word of advice for all Lambretta engines, I wouldn't advocate gunning any engine from a cold start until it had ticked over for a bit and at least got some warmth into it.

Other than that, RichT, the GT kit is running great, still got to get a few more miles on the clock to run it in, but I will mail you my final carb spec. when all run in.
