If you haven't already, fit one of these circlips.
Thanks for the link got one of those on the outer, my concern is with the circlip on the inside that holds the piston, washer and spring in as I don't want that popping out again and wrecking another 1st gear :(

I used a 5.5 last week as I always do. I've never had one go wrong or have weak threads. Each to their own I guess.

Oh I see. Sorry I misread your question. I'd guess the circling wasn't sitting in its groove correctly, or the groove isn't machined deep enough perhaps? I'd refit it and just make sure it's seated correctly. If it seat correctly I can't see why it'd come out.

if the circlip has fallen out before i would replace the shaft and circlip spring and dog just to be on the safe side, remember if parts are migrating around your gearbox they can jam the gears and lock the rear wheel, even break the casing, i would err on the side of do it right once, job done. i have done the same kickstart mod as shown above, allows fine adjustment of kickstart to get it to engage as soon as the pedal is pressed, highly recommended. if you do change the shaft, check you have clearance with your clutch top plate, some rub and need grinding a little so they dont touch.

My thoughts are the same holty, nothing wrong with the shaft, spring, circlip, washer etc but am replacing with a casa one as like you said it could happen again and will be doing the LI ramp modification ;-)
