With all the purpose designed kits now being produced, I don't understand why the cylinders are all being shoe horned into a standard cowling.
With upwards of 100% more power and the associated heat being produced, wouldn't it make more sense to design a kit with a bigger surface area to dissipate the heat, and then market a specific cowling to go with it?
Almost like dropping a V8 in your Mini, and using the stock radiator!
Cooling fins??

It would make sense (to me) to have bigger fins on the exhaust side - there is plenty of space as opposed to the inlet side where there is little due to the frame tube.Knowledge wrote:It's a good point Tony. What are you thinking? Should the barrel fins be, say, 10mm wider all around the barrel?
Reading recently about the 60's AF250 with the motorcross cylinder made me think, as they had to machine down the fins to get it to fit inside the cowling - apparently it kept overheating!!!!!!
I was also thinking if header pipe itself could be modified with it's own headsink where it meets the cylinder to draw heat from the exhaust port.

Or just redesign the cowlings to work better so they can be used on all kits

i mentioned before about the design of the fins on the flywheel possibly becoming useless at high rpm
those cowlings look cool though

are these available ?
can the cylinder cowling be removed with the engine in the frame without removing a "standard" [albeit 48mm] header pipe ?? cos removing the exhaust to check the head always annoys me
Come on Jason you cant post porno pic's & no details.jason frost wrote:Or just redesign the cowlings to work better so they can be used on all kits
