Hi all
Thanks for all your help and suggestions folks! It ended up being the rivets on the inside of the lightened AF flywheel were rubbing the top of the ignition coil and were so shorting it out after a short time, so after trying 3 stator plates and 2 lightened AF frisbies it's sorted!
It's going great with the standard flywheel but tomorrow I'll be putting an original 80's/90's AF flywheel and ducati stator on!! no wonder they are so sought after! now I know why!
happy and safe scootering
John
