If you can solder then it is simple. The only way you're going to "feck the pod" is if you connected a battery to it with the wrong polarity.

Firedkp
what sort of output would you get without doing the mod to the stator?

If you mean using a podtronics reg/rec whilst the stator is still earthed, then the output would only be a half wave 13-14v pulse and equal to half the power of full wave.

so what does that mean in real terms, is that effectively what a standard set up is?
would this charge a battery with minimal load ( a fuel guage)
or would all the lights/horn run off the battery

cheers for your help

It wouldn't be enough power to run the lights brightly or keep the battery charged when the lights are on. If you don't want to mod the stator and want a battery to run minimal loads then you are better off with a Vespa reg with a B+ connection.

Would that just replace my existing regulator & connect into the loom & just connect the battery to the reg?

Yes, it would connect in the same way as a standard vespa reg, leaving the B+ connector to feed the battery positive, earth the battery -ve and run accessories off the +ve via a fuse.

which is what I'm in the middle of fitting to mine. and also keeping the Minarelli rectifier I have been using for my tacho; so will end up with an AC circuit [for the standard lights], some battery DC charged from the vespa unit [for the horn, phone charger, any other accessories, maybe a spotlamp?] and rectified DC from the Minarelli [for my tacho], which is possibly over complicating it, but should have some options if something fails, and it's on my bike so i know what it's all for... In my recent rectifier tests a genuine Ducati P2 unit gave the best voltage readings.
[but I'm only fitting it in short sessions, until my fingers become too numb and my nose starts freezing up]
