Yeah, I'm interested. Due to injury I need the lightest smoothest clutch I can find and this may well fit the bill.
What is expected from MB, is this another m/cycle style clutch or a new improved Lambretta one?
I've since fitted a GT Clutch. The quality of components is superb and the installation was one of the easiest jobs I've ever done on a Lambretta. The manual is very clear and easy to understand. It has seven friction plates with the new alloy plates too and also comes with a Schnorr washer for the centre nut. A holding tool isn't required as it can be fully torqued up using the footbrake and undone in the same way. It can be assembled as a unit outside of the engine and just fitted as a cartridge into the cownwheel.

Initial tests had a very smooth travel and definite bite point however was a little stiffer than I expected. I spoke to Richard about this and concluded that the preload could be lightened with the addition of spacers under the pressure plate, this would give the opposite of increasing the preload with the "buttons" as mentioned (and used) in the Scootering article. Suspecting a cable problem first, I had a new one made up by Venhill, a stainless steel cable and Teflon lined outer, they call it a featherlight cable, not cheap at £20+VAT, but superb quality and what a difference!! The lever can now be pulled in with one finger, using a Yamaha lever I already have fitted, making it much lighter than my other standard four plate set up. It will have further testing when my engine is back together but I don't expect any problems with a 25bhp TS1 as this is designed for 40+bhp engines. Maybe a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but this could save me having to go the auto route and in reality is a much cheaper option.

Here's some pics of the taking apart prior to soaking and fitting...

I am looking for a good clutch to put in my DAC 340, but have been looking at the AF one. Have these come down in price yet :?:.Not saying they are not worth it, you only have to look at work gone into them. Some feedback would be nice.

There were seven clutches made and there are two of these left, so if you're seriously interested contact Richard at joandrich@blueyonder.co.uk

There are plenty of spares to support them too, steels/alloys, friction plates etc. Other parts will last for many years as they are heavily constructed and have wide areas of contact. The crown wheels have a press fit bush which should last until the teeth wear out, but this is made from EN24 so will probably last decades as will the other parts.

An 8 plate version has been designed but will only be produced if enough interest is there to make 10-15 units when the cost would be £550-£600. The 8 plate design uses the same friction plates, alloys, centre hub and release plate. The top plate is the same but a little thinner. The crown wheel and spider are slightly deeper and the release plate and bearing have some minor changes. This will handle any Lambretta or hybrid motor with ease.

There are many advantages of this clutch over other similar ones but I'm not going to start a p1551ing contest or leave myself open to criticism, all I can say is speak to Richard and he can answer all your questions. Those who know Richard and his GT kit will be aware that all angles are covered and the engineering and quality is superb, on top of that the aftersales service is second to none.

This really seems to be a fit and forget clutch that will last for many many years to come.

BTW all prices include VAT if applicable ;)
