My SX200 as it was in 2007 being stripped down due to a cracked weld on the stand strut. I'd also had a petrol tank split while in Germany on the Euro Lambretta and a flywheel split across the boss. Engine at the time was a TS230...........Image...

Decided that high revving motors with not a lot of torque wasn't for me so as well as getting the frame welded and alignment checked by a well known frame and alignment checker in Manchester I also decided to go for a Mugello 225 as he sold these as well. As the sprayer he used was "not the cheapest but one of the best" I decided in good faith to leave the whole scoot with him for a refurb...............Image........

Role on early 2009. Although all seemed well from a distance I had issues with the sprayjob from day 1. These included 2 different shades of white used  and........................

Also paint chipping away in under 500 miles........... I was also less than impressed with the work done on the engine.........60/116 crank catching in the crankcase because a groove wasn't cut in, a barrel that was supposed to have the exhaust and inlet matched to the manifolds but when I took the barrel off I found that this hadn't been done, left hand engine mount that collapsed in under 400 miles................

As well as having a valve let go on the front wheel on one of those safe as f**k tubeless rims on the way to Kelso I was getting a bit pissed off to put it mildly. And at one stage was seriously thinking of jacking it all in.

Enter Stuart Owen at 100mph Lambretta Club. Now I've known Stuart for many years and he's also done the engines for my 2 mates Dave and Steve, they go very well. I had a chat and he told me to bring my scoot to him to look at. At this stage I'd managed to get a full refund for the "sprayjob" from the previous place. So we stood there for a couple of hours thinking about how we could change things..........................

Well last Saturday I picked it up from Stuart. Now running an iron 225, 30 phbh and 42 clubman. Li 125 gears @ 18/47.

That's a great looking scooter you have there, Stuart has done a super job 8-)

What final drive ratio does your Li125 gearbox & sprocket set up give you :?:

I have just gone upto 225cc with 28mm PHBHcarb & 42mm clubman. Running Li150 box on 16/47 @5.0 final drive. Just wondering if I am in the right ball park with the gearing for my set up :?

Cheers
Mike

Another cracking job by Stuart :)
I do not try to explain why I ride Lambrettas,
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary,
For those who don't, no explantion is possible.

Why did you dump the Mugello in favour of the iron barrel ?

The Mugello was ok on the flat but died a death on hills even running a 4th gear ratio of 5. All I've been after is a motor with torque and the Mugello was gutless. To be honest I'd had that much grief with the previous dealer I wanted to get shut of everything he'd put on the scoot (plus the fact that the crank was catching in the casing and I didn't want to put a groove in there, also the length of the rod 116 was matched to the length of the piston which was matched to the length of the barrel. It was just easier to sell it all together). My mate Dave has got a similar setup to what I have now and he's had no trouble with it at all and he's done some miles this year (came sixth on LCGB coast to coast). He also runs a 4th gear ratio of 4.8 but with Italian GP gears. On the way to Tenby this year, there's a long twisty A road out of Newtown. I tried to keep up with Dave but he just blew me away. I finally caught up with him after he'd stopped for about 15 minutes. Iron's fine, just depends who does your motor. Mine's not going to be a rev monster as you can tell from the spec but it should be ok cruising at 60/65 with a top end of 75, that's all I need these days. I suppose next year it'll have the ultimate test when I ride to Spain. :)
