hi all, i have recently finished a course for welding/fitting at the worst time if year in the worst economy!!!! now unemployed while trying to find a job i have a project on the horizon. i finished restoring/customizing my '59 LI ser. 1 lambretta. now i have a plan for a new scoot. GP's aren't lurking around the corners here in canada so i have decided to make my own. i have a ser. 3 chrome ring frame and some gp bodywork. i have a good set of legshields, and a pair that were in an accident. i have a pair of TV1 chromed forks that were originally in my ser. 1, and a pair of gp panels and gp200 motor (mostly). And Li headset, though i think i'll use a gp headset as i already have a gp headset top.
so what i would like to do is instead of cutting my forks and fork tube and rewelding them to suit the legshields i would like to cut my legshields and graft in a section from the banged up legshields to suit the frame. i would also like to make a long range fuel tank. i have some time from looks of things and my girlfriends dad has a nice TIG welder i can use. has anyone made a tank themselves? any suggestions? measurments? blueprints? even frame blueprints? i have the filler neck and tap part that i got as spares from scooter restorations.
sorry for the long winded story just wanted to give an idea of what i'm up to and if anyone has advice etc. it's appreciated.
thanks
Long range tank
robi
are you trying to make a GP out of the parts you have? personally, i'd cut the frame to suit some GP forks and GP legshields - both readily available in north america - i've even got extra that i don't think i'll be using anytime soon.

You'll need an LI / SX horncast if you extend the legshields

well i didn't really want to cut the frame up and i like the idea of doing something different.

i have thought about this and haven't decided what i wanted to do. i guess it was going to be up to how things matched up. but i guess there isn't really any difference looks wise between a gp horncast and an sx horncast is there? just length and price.

Maybe not quite a 'long' range tank, maybe a 'mid' range, anyway this is one I made for myself at work, 316 stainless, kinda fills the space better than an original tank, agree?
A couple of tips;
Cardboard templates, even a cardboard model, to make sure it fits,
Take your time butting your edges together, should be inside edge to inside edge, if that makes sense.
Also, when it comes time to weld, purge it.

That's an 'interesting' exhaust pipe...
Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, loudly proclaiming: "WOW, WHAT A RIDE"

You like that?, I looked at the ancillotti 'retro booster' and thought I might try something different, so what you see is a bit of a working prototype I made at work, so far it dosen't affect performance, keeps the same tone, just takes a few decibels off.

Did you pass inspection?
Robi - one cut to the frame and you're done. I've got forks, legshield, horncast and a mudguard that i won't be using and could swing a deal if you want any. Have to check on the shipping, but might be cheaper to transport it up to BC and then ship to you if you wanted.

why not just trim the legshiels you have to look like gp ones
