Hell, remember before the Jap piston swop over craze started, Asso were about the best you could get. I seem to remember they all had a dykes top ring.
That's not going anywhere...

those prices are way out of date by at least 3 yrs i bought a 70mm one from there and it was £87 that was in april this year they also quote £62 for a TS1 225 piston mine was £92drunkmunkey6969 wrote:i just meant cheaper than an MB or Wiseco piston.
Taken from AF site:
*Asso/Vertex 225cc (Conversion 200/225)
Sizes available: 70-71mm. £56.00
*Asso/Vertex 250cc (Conversion 200/250)
Sizes available: 72.5-73.5mm.£49.00
I'm a stickler for quality, so i would use MB or Wiseco.......this was just a cheap option in case damdam was only concerned with money etc.

Yeah, but you can probably find a H2 piston or wiseco eqivalent (from a jet ski) on eBay US for about half those prices if you're willing to wait..

nothing wrong with the TS250 piston as already pointed out, either genuine, Taiwanese (Mitaka I think it is) or Wiseco copy.. Also consider the Wossner or Wiseco KX (kdx) 250 piston, 1978-1986 - it should start part number 439 M (then 070 00 etc if 70 mm is required)
Like Dan says factor in your crank / conrod rebuild / head modification and weigh it up against the MB one...........food for thought?

If I remember the Jap conversions were originally fitted so that a better quality piston ring could be used and a piston that was less prone to cracking than the original one.
Most Japanese pistons even most pattern ones use wire rings and the design of the Japanese piston normally prevents cracks forming (unless home made boost port windows are cut into the piston skirt).
So most quality Jap conversion pistons are very good quality.
The Wiseco, Wossner & MB devtour pistons are forged not cast, so the structure is even less prone to cracking than a standard Japanese piston, & as a replacement piston they are very high quality. But unless the piston is being modified heavily or put into a very high powered engine then the Wiseco/Wossner/MB choice may be money spent that could be saved to spend else where on the build.
Some group 4 racers will be using standard Japanese pistons, Such as: ART, Mitaka & Prox all are good quality... But the group 6 racers may want the added strength of a forged piston for additional boost ports.
My choice of piston for the Rapido classic I was thinking of using possibly the KDX piston but I will probably use the Suzuki TS 250, preferably a genuine ART piston (Suzuki original part) very good quality and excellent rings... or a Mitaka... If not available, then as soullad says... I will use a Wiseco... But all these makes of piston are very good quality.. the MB, Wiseco & Wossner probably a little better...

I got hold of a TS250 piston from Ebay for £28.00 (£32.00 inc P&P)
However, if you wanted the Kawasaki piston; I have a 60mm crank with TV length Rod with correct size little end and a original H2 Piston for sale. Piston just needs rings...available from U.S or Aussy Ebay.
You can PM me if you're interested
Cheers Stu
