The one in Scootering a few months ago, If it was in the small block shoot out, was one of mine... They can be made to rev or pull, and are very reliable... That barrel was ported about 10 years ago and in the dyno shoot out, ran on a standard 22 and unmodified air box... that includes
....porting crankcase
....barrel porting
.....and modifing inlet manifold and also "u" pipe........
this is on a bare/stripped engine of course...............
the rest is variable,you may have certain parts already/or need to buy some or all.........
you then also have the choice to use new or s/h parts etc etc..............
i realize that also for someone who is not mechanically minded,and cannot do the nessesary stripping/rebuilding ........etc that more labour costs will mount up............

Sean B.S just a query on your choice of exhausts. Why do you propose the SS type? After so much reading and talking to ppl, I decided to change mine to an NK mild steel, due to SS not being complient for want of a better word with 2 Strokes, I have had a lot of leaks and problems with mine over 2-3yrs, mainly it leaking. Even using red gasket seal the thing just kept leaking somewhere. I thought maybe the variable contraction/expansion of mild steel was the way to go.
I dont know - maybe it was me - probaly was but so far no probs with the NK.
Just curious why you use it - i took it as it was a cheap version of a PM so to speak??
Finaly, seeing my setup in the start of the thread, which already has the lightest flywheel around - being plastic, lol. how much more speed could i pick up with my beedspeed (indian i assume) "stage 4"setup (using the term stg 4 with care here) ?
So I am wondering, already having a "175" although GP150 gearing, what tuning are you doing above the basic blueprinting - perhaps a bit more, which i have, and matching my inlet/exhaust ports, - i already have a bigger carb. Would this be a gain?? if so, in what respect? Pls dont take this the wrong way my 125 hond 4 stroke did 84mph. But i would like to know how much difference i would get - approx : i am aware nothing is a given in lambrettas and tuning

I now run that Suzuki 185 engine Soosh mentions and I can say hand on heart it will sit with a fast pack of TS's at cruising speed without strain. It's an awesome little engine.

I have another 185 kit that cost just £220 including labour and postage for an alloy SR barrel, which was then SES tuned and boostported, Indian thick finned head which was then reprofiled to suit piston, Mitaka TS piston and rings and Indian GP crank webs with an RD 400 rod and welded pin. All these parts were new as well, although, admittedly they were cheap. I suppose it depends just how "exotic" you want to go, but I know for that money it's performance at a bargain price.

SUZUKI, GT185 (as in the lam kit gran torismo reed valve), AF175, obviously with all a conrod needed too. But which one is easier to get/tuning needed, best value for money, BHP gained over the iron barrel beedspeed??
or for the gain is it going to be worth it - or worth saving for something like imola, mug, rapido, rb20??

as others have said harry barlow does a nice conversion my friend paid £200 out right for his that inc the head the crank rebuild was £65 with a longer rod with silver cage bearing his kit was the "SR" type ali/iron barrel i recone he will see a genuine 70mph on it not all day but seems to have a good spread of power with the jl3 and 28mm dellorto
