What's Needed?

Hello

I have been given (as a christmas present off the misses!) a Series 2 150cc Li API built Lambretta.

I have been told its needs a re-wiring and and new front wheen bearings.. It's not road registered either.

I'm going to strip it down replace all rubbers etc and clean it up.

We have had the engine running and i have ridden it about 3 metres 4 times (up the garden pushed back up the garden pushed back :lol: )

What tools do you think i'll need and where should I start?

Crikey...thats a very broad question!!

I think you should start by buying Stickys Lambretta manual...its is invaluable. Also you can get a DVD with it, which really helps. Also see here: http://www.scooterhelp.com/tips/engine/ ... .main.html Its a brilliant site with a step by step guide to most things.

After that, you're gonna need at least a decent tool kit (sockets, spanners, screwdrivers etc) plus Lambretta specific tools (Flywheel holder, flywheel puller, hub puller, clutch compressor, clutch holder etc) see a list in Stickys book that you will be buying. ;)

Then....strip it, and replace bearings, seals, gaskets, oil, plugs and piston rings as a minimum. Then check other bits as you go along....crank, bore, head, sprockets, chain etc etc and replace if needed.

Then drain your old fuel off, fill with fresh mix....make sure you have good tyres, brakes and suspension......and fire her up....go on a rally, break down, get a van to pick you up, strip it all, fit a kit....go faster......blow it up...sell it.....buy another scooter.....start again!!

Hmmm............Christmas pressie from the Missus eh. ;)

Normally when Lambrettas are introduced into a relationship, its the start of problems!

hahaha Maybe she is. I was very shocked! It was supposed to be a wedding present but she couldn't keep it secret for another 6 months! She’s had it since the beginning of December in a relative’s garage.

The garage is fully secured waiting on the sparky to connect the wiring from the garage to the main fuse board and the door sensors to the house alarm!

I do have Sticky’s book already with the funny DVD (eBay).

I was just wondering if people had a routine and any hints, tips and tricks on the restoration process!

If you have the book and the DVD, then perhaps you need someone local who has done this already, and to keep using this forum. See if there is a club nearby. There is always someone with a bit of knowledge in every club. Where are you?

You can also view the Lambreta Club Great Britain's forum, and search the extensive archive of questions posed previously on the LCGB forum, and this forum.You can post questions on the LCGB forum, but you need to be a member of the club first.

If you can't find the answer from the archives, post a new question here and we'll do our best to help.

You might have a different video if you purchased it on ebay in a deal with Stickys book.
The DVD we mean is "Scooter Techniques...Lambretta Engine rebuild" 2 DVD set. It's about £20.

Take it apart methodically, keep everything in plastic bags or boxes, with labels on to identify them, don`t throw any thing away just yet no matter how bad you think it is, as you are doing this make a list of the parts you think you want to replace or will need,also make any sketches how things go back together or how wires are connected just in case, it may help, then place an order with one supplier who hopefully has everything,( you should be able to negotiate a good deal then) and put it all back together, join the LCGB, get a dating certificate, and the necessary registration forms from your local DVLA branch, and Bobs your uncle.
I would think seriously about replacing crankshaft oilseals as well, possibly crankshaft bearings if there`s no history on the engine,checking bore and piston at the same time. Good luck with it and you will enjoy doing it, and enjoy riding it even more (hopefully)

and a digital camera take hundreds of pics esp wiring cables etc were in the uk are you ... update your profile to say ,i have mentored several people with there rebuilds , only stepping in when needed ,maybe someone local could do the same for you
