Evening All,
Planning to try a 22mm carb on my LIS150 in the not too distant future. Question is, do I need to fit an inlet manifold gasket, or can I get away with using gasket sealant? Also, if a gasket is recommended, is it OK to buy gasket paper and make my own? Sorry if it sounds a dumb question, but I have done loads of reading, and nowhere have I seen it give a definite yes or no!
Cheers

use a cereal box- grease up the end of the inlet manifold and press down. Cut round the ungreased areas.

Bad advice.
Use an "old el paso" nachos kit box; cereal boxes aren't Tuv approved.

Is there a reason for not wanting to buy a ready made gasket ?

Sealants fine but I use sealant and a gasket.......belt and braces and all that.....

I found that gaskets didn't cover the gasket face properly so made my own.

No, no reason. Just doesn't seem to be that many for sale, so wondered if they were really necessary!

Thanks for all replies guys. Think I will try a cereal packet gasket (cornflakes or weetabix, hmmm) with sealant.

I seem to remember that my genuine LI150S barrel has the same shape (round) and size inlet gasket as a TV175, which is different to the other L150s, so you might want to make your own anyway. I too would rather use a gasket than just sealant but a bit 'horse for courses'.

Gaskets are cheap and easy to come by. I literally have 100's of extras from various builds. Every gasket set comes with at least 1 intake and they are only used about 1/4 of the time in rebuilds (seal/bearing jobs).

If you are changing your manifold then replace the gasket (use gasket sealer). If you are using a cereal box then I look forward to reading how you motor has developed a mysterious air leak and you melted a hole in your piston. Good luck.

I completely agree, and that is why I said to use a nachos box.
