The master cylinder is a simple piece of kit to strip down, the plunger that applies the braking pressure to the fluid has a rubber seal that can leak. The master cylinder comes apart usually by removing a circlip that sits in the housing behind the lever... Once the lever is removed it can be taken apart (you will have to drain the brake fluid first)... The circlips can be a little awkward to get out but with the right circlip pliers is not to dificult....
If you know the make and model there are service kits available that contain all the new parts necessary to fully service or repair...

this is a picture of what you get in a typical master cylinder repair kit

the ebay item number will take you to pamotorcycles, however the picture is for a tzr master cylinder, which may not be the correct item for you.

just about any yam bits have a part number on them, this should help you to identify the bike that it came from
