I've used 4.8 from day one with a fresco and it still suits me perfect (Indian gp 200 with 19/46), the frescos gone (to back of garage) and replaced with a taffspeed copy on my standard 225 (other than MB manifold) - i'm 10 stone and never ride 2 up.
Same set up on my all my bikes.
Works well overall on all roads types, good on banks and against wind.
TS1 225 Kits - advice please

Cheers again Adam and Gaz / others...........
i'll have a dig around to see what I have in the garage and next steps.....fortunately i'm only 10 and a half stone and don't ride two up so less for the scooter to deal with lol....
Adam, Must confess I did contemplate sticking the Dave Webster stage 4 iron barrel back on the bike, but after cleaning off the scorch marks on the piston and cleaning the barrel I inadvertently broke one of the rings, which In turn allowed me to stop and think whilst apart about shall I 'kit it up' OH and the top piston ring had also 'gummed itself into the top groove' .....but it was tons of fun to ride and quick ............................................
I could keep it going, but must confess, with the intention of using the bike for Europe in 2017 it probably makes sense to go the nicasil route..........

Been an interesting thread this and glad I could contribute.
The OP question was about heads - I ve used a couple of the AF ready done 225 TS1 8:1 with success, they are decent and excellent value, before these I used to get genuine SIL ones modified (still run 3 TS1 motors with SIL heads with no issue).
AF now pushing their Avanti esq Mammouth heads for 2017....something else to consider!!

Cheers Gaz and all..........
Must confess I use a lot of SIL components without any issues.........including stators and cranks and have had no concerns personally.
yes I heard AF were releasing their version of the Avanti cylinder head (just goes to prove the usefulness of enlarged cooling fins I guess) so I guess operational temperatures will have been reduced by it........
Presumably the original Avanti 225 head also fits the TS1 .

"Presumably the original Avanti 225 head also fits the TS1 .", not a straight fit, no. The Avanti head is machined to have a spigot that locates into the barrel so the barrel is manufactured longer to suit, whereas the TS1 has a head that sits flat against the top of the barrel (no spigot on head). AF have copied Ron's design and then simply changed how it is machined. They used to buy blanks from Ron and machine them to their purposes but realised that they could copy Ron's work and get it made cheaper elsewhere.

I got lucky on my Mugello 225 as the std head sat inside the cylinder the same depth as the Avanti. Don't know if it's down to the central combustion chamber but it runs far better with the genuine Avanti head [and presumably cooler but I have no gauges to back that up].Adam_Winstone wrote: The Avanti head is machined to have a spigot that locates into the barrel so the barrel is manufactured longer to suit, whereas the TS1 has a head that sits flat against the top of the barrel (no spigot on head).

Cheers Corrado......any idea if AF have tested to see what heat reductions this achieves ?
