What's best for attaching the side casing?

I'm using allen fixing studs that are easy to fit with an allen key, no double nutting needed, then flat washer, wavy washer and a standard nut. Never use nylocks on chaincasing as they're likely to bring the stud out when undoing them.

Fully agree with this, using capscrews (allen headed bolts) encourages thread wear with use. Try and get the deeper original type nuts.

Studs,wavy washers and stainless dome nuts,have used them for years with no leaks and they never come loose.

I'm not using allen bolts, I'm using studs that fit using an allen key.

I hope your Nylocs are better than the ones I have just got. Just using wavy flat washers , the studs just touch under the Nyloc ends. Nyloc seems too high up, not doing their job. Or either my studs are shorter than normal length.

Are these still domed nuts you're talking about? At the risk of labouring the point they are a lottery. Use standard nylocs and be safe.

If your talking about wheel nuts,using standard nylocs can be a bit of a lottery too.Some nyloc nuts are too long and the thread of the wheel rim/hub wont reach the nyloc part.If your using standard nyloc nuts,always get the shorter ones.

Ah, then we've all learned something. I hadn't realised that there were two lengths of standard. Seems a bit bizarre to me.
