Mahle pistons are decent for mild tune road use, whether we're talking original SIL 200 3-ring pistons or AF's thin 2-ring pistons. Sure the rings limit how wide you can go on the exhaust port but that is simply something that should be taken into account by the tuner... if he/she is any good at what they're doing

Sorry should have included a new small-end bearing + top end gaskets = total nearer £90 (and we are talking the 2 x 1.5 piston ring in the quote)eden wrote:you said decent!
but then again, considering what you post out I suppose your view on decent differs to mine
Go on then Eden...... pick a better piston for the job from your own preferred dealers and let us all know why!? Also why 1989 prices are irrelevant then with your mouthpiece.....

You forgot mag/drive seals and bearings too but then I don't suppose you bother with that s**t do you! or a decent ignition, ye the crank will be fine and you defo wont need a decent clutch as you wont be making much more power than leaving the top end untouched anyway. etc etc
regarding pistons I only use Wossner from Wossner or AF depending which wossner I need.
If someone wanted me to use any another piston in a tune I would refuse and send them to someone who would, I don't see much sense in tuning with your hands tied behind your back.
You don't have to agree with me, I couldn't give a flying f@@k one way or the other. you do your thing and ill do mine!
you seem obsessed with my view on all sorts of things though Andy, no idea what your "mouth piece" comment means, ive read it 3 times and i'm afraid I cant decipher it, don't bother explaining though as like I just said above... I couldn't give a flying f@@k
by the way, While you have been trolling ive been out enjoying my self riding my scooter with my expensive piston, riding with others who also have expensive pistons....its much more fun than looking for arguments on here with people who don't give a f@@k.

In order of state of tune you can go from Casa 186, Mugello, RT, GT, Imola, Casa SS, RB20. All top quality kits and they'll all do what it says on their tins. No such thing as a bad kit these days [discounting the Ebay Indian kits]. Choose the kit that suits your riding style, they're all in the £350 - £500 ish price range.
Don't choose by bhp numbers either .. Casa 186 doesn't fair too well on a dyno but it's a beautiful kit to ride.
The kit is only the start
Once you have chosen the kit you will need the following
1. Exhaust £200ish
2. Carb £120 ish
3. Crank ( look at the kit then decide on what you need) £100 minimum
4. Electronic ignition £150 ish
You will also need the following,
new chain and front sprocket to increase the gearing
Replacement mag housing bearing for the crank
Before you buy have a look at what price the Europeans are selling their kits for as the £1 =1.4 euros.
€500=£357.10, it may be best to buy in the UK but you can use it to bargain.
If you buy from Europe watch extra credit card charges when buying in euros
Good all round advice.
