Easy test for that is to block the exhaust, if it kills the engine, the seals are okHxPaul wrote:You say it smokes a lot,is it white smoke,if so it could be your main drive seal thats failed causing your spark plug to become fouled.

Very true, however this test will only work if your exhaust is sealed properly
If you have an aftermarket exhaust and not used sealant on flange joints it will keep running anyway but thick white smoke is def a sure sign of burning gearbox oil.
Check choke is shutting off properly at carb.....change plug and check float and needle operation.
