Bit of a grind when I kick her over?

Could damage/wear to this be causing the noise/slipping that I am experiencing? Could this have happened when I holed my piston last week?

After you holed your piston, did you remove the crank?

I don't really get what you said re the cush drive, but if looks/ed different to the picture then I'd investigate, but also presume then that you've not had the chaincase cover off recently? Not difficult to check (tad time consuming I suppose) but the potential damage/ cost outweighs checking it out.
Although I'd expect it to make a noise all the time, it's not flywheel rubbing cowl? Again, easy check.

You should have lead with that.
Where do you think all the vaporized aluminum bits from the piston went? Straight in to the crank small end then the big end, through the seals and in to your main bearings.

^ Agree with above but I don't think it would create a grind like we are being told, and only on kicking over. What mileage have you done since rebuild? Ali from piston in the crank/ bearings will give a rumble getting progressively worse until failure, not really a grind.
When you holed piston, it seized. Reasonable to expect crank twisted but would manifest itself more of a scraping / vibration once running, unless fins rubbing on cowl now it's got an 'high' side?, (yeah I know it's a round type thing that doesn't have sides
)
Edit; Have you had chaincase off during rebuild at all?

How do you know its not rubbing if you havent took the casing side off ? quick job take it of and have a look if its not this you can have a look for other things whilst in therealanscottj wrote:I can't see any sign of that happening. I have done about a hundred miles, running and sounding fantastic. No noises, scrapes, nothing, runs like it did before holing piston. I've had case off and can't see or feel anything untoward, apart from as I said earlier, there seems to be quite a gap between the front sprocket and Cush, I can see that it is supposed to move to take shock, but should there be a gap when not under load?

If that picture is your cushdrive than that is the way there are and should be (refer back to rossclark's post).
You are going to have to take the side casing off but, if I were you, just check your kickstart lever is on the correct spline.
Failing all that take it to Barry turner. I suspect he'll diagnose the noise pretty quickly.
I can't see your hoped piston being the issue but I am firmly in the camp of other posters on this topic. That is I would strip the engine and make sure it is all cleaned out.
