Makes sense, think ill stick to my phbh :-)

On the manifolds Richard, the one i have is the large phbh type but I believe there are 2 types, is that right? ie one for normal carb side and one for imola side ie kickstart side? is it not possible to put a phbh 30 on the normal (flywheel) side?

The VHSH can fit on both sides but the PHBH is best suited to L/H side. The reason for this is that if the PHBH is fitted on the R/H side the adjustment screws are a little obscured by series 3 engine mounts. It isn't the end of the world, it is just a bit awkward to get to. Neither configuration is suitable for running through an airbox so you need to consider alternatives.

Don't you get left and right handed versions of the phbh?

BS & BD suffix

Like the Monty Python sketch of Roman legionnaires marching,

Legionnaires enter stage left... marching badly
cue Michael Palin, shouting in RSM manner: "Sinister - Dexter, Sinister - Dexter..."

(or "Left - Right, Left - Right..." for those without a classical education)

At least knowing what the letters stand for makes it easier to remember.

they do but I think the standards for PHBH and PHBL is BS, not sure what the stock situation is for the opposite hand.

Good stuff, hoping my manifold will be ok with my PHBH then for the "normal" flywheel side.

PHBH is fine on Flywheel side. There was a bit more power with the VHSH but I did not think it worth the extra IMO. VHSH30 jetting on on a GT200 big block is very similar to the small block, it's a good enough starting point maybe up the jetting by 5 and lift the needle a tad.

Excellent stuff, was worried I needed a different manifold to have the phbh on the flywheel side :-)

Pepot wrote: Rich, I'd like to go for a longer conrod for my GT186. I have a 25 dellorto ,16-46 primary drive, BGM bigbox V2 exhaust. Would the 60 stroke 110 conrod mean any improvement on the kit? Does the use of a 60 stroke 115 conrod with 8mm packer mean a big loss in primary compression?
Thanx!
On the other post I did list out the timings for different rod and stroke combinations, you might want to look through that.

Rich T
Just spent ages looking for that list so here it is again....
Just to help you out, here are the port timings and different stock configurations that can be achieved with a standard totally unmodified GT186 barrel.
Interestingly, you will see that if you increase the rod but not the stroke, the timings reduce. If you increase the stroke but not the rod the timings increase.

A modification for 115 rods is to use a DT175 piston 66-68mm bore and does not require such a thick packing plate. 58 stroke cranks are built without head gaskets while 60 stroke require head gaskets. Hope you find it useful.

58 stroke 107 rod
Transfer 124
Exhaust 173
60 stroke 107 rod
Transfer 127.1
Exhaust 174.6
58 stroke 110 rod & 3mm packer
Transfer 123.2
Exhaust 172.8
60 stroke 110 rod & 3mm packer
Transfer 126.7
Exhaust 174.1
58 stroke 115 rod & 8mm packer (or DT175 piston & 2.5mm packer)
Transfer 122.6
Exhaust 172
60 stroke 115 rod & 8mm packer (or DT175 piston & 2.5mm packer)
Transfer 125.9
Exhaust 173.4
