Hi all changed old rattling chain for a new Isis chain and f%%k its tight almost to the point of worryingly tight!!
Had one before but not as bad as this pic's attached hopfully :lol: should I be worried.

IWIS transmission chain is as good as you get.

I would imagine that the profile and PCD on your primary drive combination is likely to be out or is certainly subject to less manufacturing scrutiny than a high quality automotive roller chain manufacturer. If your old chain fitted with the same combination it is more likely that the old chain masked the difference.

Remember that not only the roller chain link pins wear but also the roller on the pin wears too.

Cant get the pics up but I think most tight chains will "stretch" a bit with a small amount of use. Basically if you can get it on by hand without having to tap the clutch spider or front sprocket on by force I think you should be ok but make sure there are no problems elsewhere with sprockets.
That's what I would do anyway.

I use the thicker end of a plastic chopstick (free gift with some scooter parts !!) and measure here.

it is amazing how much the old chain has stretched it is not an iwis, its on ts1 setup and its done about 4.5k and it does get thrashed when conditions allow :D

it is the original sprocket combo, I have tried a few other clutch baskets and front sprockets in various worn conditions all pretty much the same, one just would not go on.
I should have said :oops: I have done about 10 miles on this new chain but it is like I can feel resistance when riding like a small hum, whirring type noise probably being paranoid.
it does feel ok when on stand and revving just when under load it is not quite right.
I have checked sprocket heights with a vernier not the best way but pretty good.
Maybe a longer chain with a pull down tensioner is the way forward?

What sprocket combo do you have? Are they Innocenti sprockets or remade?

I had a similar problem once and on investigation there was nothing wrong with the chain as I expect from Iwis it was the depth of the front cog and clutch causing the issue.

15-46 set-up clutch is remade readspeed 6plate jobby been in about 4-5 years now and innocent front sprocket.
the chain is from readspeed so hope its not fake :|
it does look original but a fake will!! :lol: no I'm certain the chain is good

It won't be your chain if its IWIS, as others have said its a good product, unless its been 'cloned' of course.
Check the concentricity of your front sprocket, its easy enough to do if you put it on the drive sleeve/carrier if you take it off the end of the crankshaft to do it .
On my sprinter I had a mystery earlier in the season where I put on another 16t Font Sprocket, the chain was noisy and virtually imposssible to set the tension.
This wasn't wear................and something I'd never come across before.
On checking the sprocket with a dial gauge,the teeth were not concentric with the bore, so the chain was going tight/loose/tight etc, you get the idea.
Don't know where I got the sprocket from, but I replaced it with Dennis RT one which was spot on .....................a bit more expensive of course.

There are actually 2 types of iwis on the market.

The best is the automotive chain which is totally silver in colour, as used by
BMW, Porsche etc. The other is industrial and has blue side plates. Both are
better than any other product but the industrial is what it says it is.
