Horrendous scraping when kicking over

Easiest bit 1st flywheel off nothing untoward there. Next step gearbox cover off but that'll have wait until tomorrow.

Easy check.

Engage clutch and kick over. Does it lock?

While holding clutch in rotate flywheel. Does it lock?

Doing this separates the two ends of the motor and tells you were the problem is.

It doesn't bode well when bits like this come out of the exhaust now I've taken it off =

Head off barrel off. Piston will not move beyond bottom dead centre. Bore and rings OK.
Gearbox casing off everything looks OK to me.

Sounds like it's coming down to the big end then.

When you say 'won't move beyond BDC' that you cannot rotate the crank beyond that point I.e. It will not turn in a full circle?
