I had two stators done and then had a wassle conversion :( :(
Not my best move, it was done for me as i'm bone idle and haven't a clue  The battery kept going flat then the lights wouldn't work so I gave up and ordered this http://www.scooter-center.com/product/B ... KT?lang=en .
I've since been told nothing wrong with the stators it was all wired up wrong :(
TS1 and PX stay in the garage (future barn finds) out on the GTS 300 when I go out on a scooter.
I know I’ll get there and back

Thanks TD, but (I think) I've resolved the electrical problem now. I just need to sort out the issue over the refitting of the flywheel and I can confirm everything by testing it.

Just to bring this to a conclusion:

I've replaced the Beedspeed stator with the BGM one, and all is working fine now. I tested the battery voltage with and without the engine running, and it goes up from around 12 volts to around 14 volts, so all sorted :)

Thanks for your help everyone!

I have exactly the same symptoms on a BGM stator.

The yellow wires exiting it all have continuity to earth.

However, with the stator plate removed there is no continuity but the stator is earthed when on the scooter as it is metal touching the earthed engine.

Therefore how can the yellows Supposedly not be earthed as well?

How are the yellow wires supposed to be isolated from Earth on the stator?

Can't get my battery to charge as only getting approx 5v out of the Red wire, everything else seems to be lighting from the battery.

The 4 lighting coils are wound on plastic 'bobbins' which slip over the fingers in the stator core. They are connected together in series and a yellow wire attached to either end. There should be NO electrical contact between the lighting coils and the stator core, if there is it can only mean that there is contact between the coils or the yellow wires and the stator plate core or backing plate or maybe as the yellows pass through the cable gland?

On an AC setup, one end of the lighting coils is soldered to an earth tag on the stator core, this should be unsoldered and have the 2nd yellow attached to it, check that it isn't still soldered to earth or that the joint isn't touching earth either.

Found the issue I hope.

Took the BGM stator of and compared it with an Indian one.

The Indian one has insulating tape between the coils and metal face of the stator.

The BGM one did not and some of the coils were actually touching the plate.

This is probably OK under normal circumstances as one end of the coils is normally earthed anyway.

How ever for the Wassell where the coils need isolating from earth this is no good.

So I wrapped insulating tape around the coils like so :

I hope this is OK to do as the Indian one only has the tape underneath the coils not all the way around

Hopefully this will sort the issue, I will update in due course, and perhaps this will help others out.

Not sure why BGM stator coils aren't isolated like Indian ones though!!!

Quick update.

That seems to have solved the problem.

Cheers Coaster for your help

Glad you're on the right track, the tape won't doo any harm, a couple of turns should be enough. However, that is extremely shoddy work from BGM, if the coils short to earth even on an AC setup, it will have the same effect as only part of the coil will be working (up to the point of the short).

Cheers

In the interests of fairness, Beedspeed have remained helpful throughout, and have refunded both the cost of the faulty stator, and my return postage. I'd certainly have no hesitation in ordering from them again in future.
