Meanwhile on the wet days back in the shed ...

When I got this bike it was a rolling chassis, my brother had kept the engine. I bought an LML reed engine in a box of bits, all there, allegedly...

After a bit of a clean up -



And a bit of tweaking around the ports to match the malossi 166 kit that came in the box.



Gearbox and crank in



Casings together, but we had my bit of a game getting a selector that worked.





This is not a job I enjoy but certainly easier on a 3 plate vespa clutch than a 6 plate lambretta one.



Top end on and clutch fitted and checked.



Rear hub on



Polini fibre reeds, block and carb in



And it's ready to go in the frame.

On another wet day we decided this was an indoor job



On the next dry day a knackered speed drive meant a total strip of the front hub to remove the horse glue Piaggio seem to use as lube in the factory.



Also tightening up the headstock bearing rings led to the collapse of the top race and another strip of the forks and headset to replace it. Complete and headset fitted with new lamp.



Bleeding the brake proved impossible with the nipple with the ball bearing on the SIP caliper. Threw it away and fitted a normal banjo, worked first time.



Also fitted the exhaust, nice old skool mikeck

well done ! quite a project thanks for posting .

Its been very educational for me as I am a died-in-the-wool Lambo man. Back in 67 a couple of my mates had a GS160 and a SS180 which I was quite impressed with yet I have never seen the inner workings of a Vespa in 47 years !
I'm surprised at how different it is from a Lambo , totally different design.

Honestly, me too. I've always had Lambrettas. Vespas have come and gone. I've worked on this one under the tutelage of a renowned local vespa man whose stickers you can see on it and I'm very grateful for his guidance, knowledge and access to his parts stock.

When this one came up I bought it for sentimental reasons as much as anything. There's a pic of my lad sat on it at my mums aged about 5 which I keep in my wallet and it's almost identical to a pic of me taken in the same spot on my first GP in about 1986.





I might get round to posting the GP project if I finish it, somewhat embaressed by how long it's taking

Wish I had a single picture of my 2x Li150's from 1967 .!

Pull the GP out into the sun and sit and look at it for half an hour and I'll guarantee you'll not be able to resist
