Before I go and start purchasing new parts can anyone shed any light as to why my drive used to mesh correctly and now since the hub has been painted and refurbed with new seals and bearings it doesn't.

Is it metal or plastic? if its metal try lapping it with grinding paste.Had the same on a drum brake I had, after painting , new seals bearing etc, would turn so far then lock.Bit of grinding paste to bed it back in & was spot on,my only thoughts at the time was that changing all the bearings, new paint etc, had altered the tolerances a bit, just enough to stop it working.

Quote off the MB site
"When fitting these new speedo drives sometimes they may need lapping in with grinding paste, this is because there are so many differences in machined hubs.

Occasionally the speedo drive pinion may need some modification or a washer fitting first, this again is because there are so many different hubs all been machined different. "

I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
