Outboard shocks vs internal progressive springs

Anything related to Lambrettas... ask tech questions, post helpful info, or just read and learn.

Ive no doubt the pm outboard jobbies are great but quite honestly I think they're overkill and don't look original at all if thats the kind of thing you care about.

Personally been using indian internal springs and escort dampers on the front end for about a decade and don't feel the need to upgrade from them quite frankly.

Plus for me there's the value for money aspect, current setup new would be less than £100 all in for all internals and the dampers whereas if I were to convert to say the pm system it appears I'd be looking at

links - 140
dampers - 215
disc hub - 325
disc caliper - 80

So about £750 minimum :o :o :shock: :shock: :shock:

I know that it's a great setup, but I also know for me Im not going to get £600+ value for money with it

Some people spend a fortune on children and other people have disposable income. If we were bothered about VFM we'd all be riding Chinese mopeds. I read that it costs something like £200K to raise a child up to adulthood these days. :o

They sure are and scootrs' version is very interesting indeed but I quite fancy my inboard innocenti brake...

Having said that, it might be that the scomadi fork links as being designed differently than the innocenti fork links only are compatible with scomadi disk brakes... :O

I'm fairly sure that Frank used to be able to offer to convert your links to accept the 12mm [???] lower shocker mount.

I havent yet upgraded from the very same system as you are running, but I'm 200% sure that the upgrade of dampers will be worth every penny on the front end (only).

As mentioned earlier, I upgraded my GTs 250 which was my daily commuter while living in Rome and the difference in handling was like night and day going from Piaggio to BiTubo front shock.

And that was moving from a modern shock to a performance shock.

The same must be true when it come to the lambretta forks which in basic construction really isn't that different from the innocenti fork (trailing links) but featuring very rudimentary shocks.

Changing the stock rear shocks to gas BiTubos wasnt at all noticeable and i believe the same is true for the Lambretta (same kind of rear suspension although even simpler) no matter what others say.

So, looks like MB progressive springs and the BGM dampers for me :) And Innocenti inboard disk :)

Nothing scrooge about it plus there's a huge difference between being cheap and vfm.

When I need to buy items I don't buy the cheapest (which is why I came to you for those bits) I buy from a dealer that's been about and I know to be trustworthy and offers a good range. Again why I bought the indian flywheel off thee (which is excellent by the way) rather than the 3 times dearer bgm flywheel, I don't see the value of the extra £120

I wouldn't go in a restaurant and pay £10 for a meal, I can't eat £10s worth of food in one go, but I'll pay £400 for a clutch. I could pay that much for a shirt in some shops. We all have different values and priorities.

I'm with Donnie on this one. If you've got an Indian flywheel that works perfectly why pay more? How much better can a flywheel that costs two or three times as much be?
