Difficulty starting

Normally starts 1st or 2nd kick but since Sunday if left for a length of time the scooter just doesn't seem to want to know and takes forever to start.
Same this morning ended up push starting it. Yet get to work, turn off try again and it starts 1st kick???
Same yesterday morning but after work it started 1st time - strange.

I did notice this morning I'd forgotten to turn the fuel tap off last night.

You tell us little about the scooter, so diagnosis won't be easy! The first thing that i thought of was the extreme heat over the weekend! Did this play a part?

The hot weather is probably playing a part to be honest.

Given you said you'd not turned off the petrol last night it could simply be your float needle has a little wear and too much petrol managed to get through over night and flooded the engine. I hope thats what it was anyway, if not the first thing that springs to mind is that it could be a break in a coil but definitely need more information I'd think.

Definitely try to have a few days of ensuring you've turned off the petrol and see how you go, it may have been that simple.

Thanks for the replies. If it happens again I'll try starting with the tap OFF to clear the carb then try again.

It's always worth bearing in mind that the default throttle position for starting is closed. Providing the choke and idle circuits are set up correctly it SHOULD fire up easily. Some engines might need a slight variation on this for starting, but most don't. I (like many) used to kick mine over whilst twisting the throttle with the result that I often flooded it :oops:
