Outer gear cable help

I know I could sort this by trial and error......but!

I have put new outer gear cables through a repainted frame and need to reconnect the inner cables to the selector. Which way round do they need to go at each end? Is there an easy way to remember whether the cable nipple on the upper side of the handlebar wheel goes on the inside or the outside of the selector?

Front to Back and Back to Front

the front cable (nearest headlight) on the gear wheel in the headset goes to the back adjuster on the selector

the rear cable (furthest headlight) on gear wheel in th eheadset goes to the front adjuster on the selector

just put cables in at top connected, then hold them at bottom get mate to turn lever towards 1stthe inner cable that starts to shrink goes towards the engine the other goes on the outside, put some black tape on the inner outer cable so if you strip you always no which goes where
