Viton Seals

I see MB's have had seals specially made in Viton.

But Ive been using these seals for Decades and you can get them from any good bearing/seal supplier

Drive side FPM33x50x6AS. These are Viton double lip
Mag side large FPM33x52x6
Mag Small FPM25x42x6
If you add AS on end then youll get the mag ones Double lipped as well

Smiffy
If its made of Metal Fettle it !!

I could be wrong, but i believe double lipped seals are to suit something like a front hub seal, where an oil or grease seal is required and a dust seal is required from the outside. Double lipped seals are a waste of time in a crankcase.

The only seals that need Viton are the two internal crank seals as no other seal comes into contact with petrol.

I seem to remember being told in the dim and distant that they wear slower than standard seals, I might be wrong though, anyone have any technical data on them?

By that i presume you mean they last longer?

What sort of technical data did you have in mind?

That's right, wear slower = last longer. As for technical info I was wondering if anyone had definitive info regarding mechanical properties in comparison to the standard rubber seals, abrasion resistance, elasticity etc
