My engine seams to have burnt 300mls of gearbox oil in 500kms Ive been told since there is no oil leaks it is the drive side seal.
Is there a test I can do before I drop the engine and strip the top end?
Thanks in advance for any advice given

Drain the oil while the engine is ticking over. If the seal is worn it'll start sucking air and speed up. If the engine is burning gearbox oil it will be smoking quite heavily as well.ssteam177 wrote:My engine seams to have burnt 300mls of gearbox oil in 500kms Ive been told since there is no oil leaks it is the drive side seal.

put your hand { or whatever you like } over the tip of the exhaust silencer at tickover ,the scoot should choke itself and cut out , if it keeps running the seal is usually gone , and as the previous post says it should be very smoky and smelly if its burning the oil.

There is a correct way to do this with tooling.... however... whip the breather off and stick your finger over it with motor running... feel excess of pressure either way?

Thanks for the advice, it looks like I'm going to be busy this weekend then. I was quiet shocked when I went to do the 1st oil change and only about 250mls of gear oil drained out
