you can get a halogen bayonet fitting bulb, plugs straight in. use a l.e.d. speedo bulb and festoon bulb. i ride on unlit country roads to work, and it works well, on a SX headlight. Beedspeed do the bulbs for about 4 quid.

I bought the standarb bulb in a 40/45W format from my local motor factors for about £4. My previous bulb was a 20W and useless. I also converted to full DC
I get my kicks out on the floor.

All the power and bulbs in the world won't make a difference if the loom and switch are a very cheap pattern part.

I rewired a new handle bar switch switch a couple of months back and found that although the power wire looked good and chunky, it actually only had 3 or 4 strands of very thin conductor in it. On a headlamp bulb this will make a very big difference.
