Should I strip the top end after a heat seizure?

No obvious leaks found, top end stripped, piston checked and cleaned up and barrel lightly honed. All rebuilt and upjetted from 100 to 103 main and from a 55 to 58 pilot and it seems to be running fine. Now does it need a full run in or would a couple of hundred miles suffice?

back off a little at first but no need to run in unless new rings /piston etc

Might be worth raising the needle a notch too..... Take it easy 100 miles or so.... What was the plug colour like when it initially seized????

Which brings me to a question is there a unwritten rule, how often should you check the torque settings on the top end?

I think once after the first 100 miles or so, providing nothing leaked up to then. I haven't had to re-torque after 100 miles unless I forgot to re-torque in the first place.

The head was torqued down correctly when initially assembled. and there was no indication of any leaks from the head. I don't hold anyone responsible but myself, after all it's a tuned 42 year old scooter and I'd been riding it two up flat out!

Agreed. If it keeps coming loose after your initial retorque i would say that there is something amiss.

I would try lifting the needle a notch like Paul says.
