currently working on my project and looking towards sourcing the bits that I will need to finish it etc

I only have bare forks, so thought why not just look for external suspension from the off

I did see but cant find them again, a pair of suspension units with mounts on ebay, was about £100 with brackets etc, are they any good? looked a bit like monkey bike shocks, I did look down that route, but all too long

Im assuming that the escort dampers I see will need me to have all the internal springs and bits and bobs.

I am going for the racer look so quite fancy the look of the external units, I seen BGM units but at over £250 they seem a lot of money, are they that much better than the cheapy ones, or just more adjustable for track use etc? is it more a case of they are what you need but the cheap ones are really bad LOL

I dont and wont be riding fast, but I cant afford to buy things twice if somethings total rubbish
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!

Start off with the Cam Lam internal yellow progressive springs. I think the BGM ones seem a bit OTT but I've not used them. The Scootrs stainless ones seem OK to me and together with the progressive springs it's not too stiff or soft fhar, fhar :)

If its outboard shocks your after have a look on here www.lambrettainnovation.co.uk there are loads of scoots fitted with the correct ones on here also look at the SCOMADI scoots they have our upmarket BITUBO shocks fitted which cost about the same as BGM dampers . we dont sell on ebay so any on there are copys of our originals .The problem with outboard suspension is that unless you have genuine italian or spanish trailing links you cannot weld the lower pins to the links The matl that Indian and any copy links are made of are not suitable for welding to and the pin will break off . The people that are selling the kits you have seen will sell them to anybody without making them aware of this problem. we sell the correct shocks for £90.00 and will weld the pins to your links for £30.00 if you want to have a chat about suspension call me at unit o1772 721714

Many thanks Frank. Yes them bitubo ones are sexy as hell but dont think i can afford right now. I will give you a shout sometime for a pair of them lower priced ones. Im making my own links so dont have to worry about the link quality.

Agree with Frank, re welding the stud bosses to the links. I've welded dozens and only use Innocenti or Spanish. Always TIG weld them too. The quality of the casting of some Indian and pattern links is appalling imo and not worth the risk.
