Hi all,
Just joined the forum, and am hoping somone out there can help with ideas etc.
Last year i bought a 1969 Vespa 150 sprint/super off ebay for £600. the engine was a non runner and my mate sold me a P200E engine he had in the garage, it is running but is very tired, and i'm lucky to get 50mph out of it on a good day, so I need to try and get more power on the cheap. not cos i'm tight but cos my only income is disability benefit. I've currently saved up about £300 and so far have changed the standard exhaust and sorted jetting out, this hasn't helped greatly. Is there any other ideas, suggestions, etc that i might be able to do? would love to build another 225 engine like i had back in the 80's on my old P2, that had some oomph. But looking at the costs etc i'm not goin g to be able to afford that any time soon.
Any help ideas greatly recieved.
Cheers
Chris

i agree with hungdog. see if you can get a compression test done. i like to see over 100psi. is it difficult to start? other wise, rings are cheap but a piston and rebore are pretty cheap too and you then have a solid base line to work off of.

 Are you a Wizard with magical mystikal golden all seeing eyes???

I Used to be, not 50 stone but 25 stone, currently lost 13 stone in 18 months, due mainly to a botched operation that had me dead on operating table and in intensive care for 2 weeks.

On Disability coz my lower spine is crumbling due to accident many moons ago.

Starts very easy, even if been standing for a while, takes 4/5 kicks and then it starts. the exhaust i have put on is 60's style arbarth and not sure what the jetting was as i got Bedlam scooters to sort that out for me.
didnt think about rebore to be honest as i remember back in the day this seemed to cause more issues with seizing than it sorted out. I'll look into it though, cheers guys.

Oh, is there any worth in gearing up, i've heard that a T5 top gear is worth putting in, but not sure how much it would improve etc.

he he... can"t resist somtimes.. ... a properly done rebore, with correct clearance , will restore most of your power, and i"d ditch the exhaust, even a standard one will give more oomph. make sure your clutch is in good shape as well, doesnt matter how many BHP your engine makes, if the clutch cant cope its all in vain. also check for other stuff, like brakes binding on, correct tyre pressures etc... i loose count of people who come to me saying their scooters handle badly and are 10mph down on speed... and they have 10 psi in the back tyre.... theres lots of stuff to make the best of a standard P200, my money would go on stuff you cant see, bearings , clutch , re-bore etc... before any shiny pipe. oh, and loose another 3 stone.

your just like the old woman, never satisfied, now i've lost the weight she's moaning i dont look right. :freak:

clutch does need sorting as jumps when pulling away, needs all internals done. tyre pressure, brakes etc all good,
so looks like a rebore then, anyone recommend anywhere thats good etc?
cheers
