removing headlight lens

Can anyone advise on the best way to seperate the headset glass from the holder on a series 3. Looks as though its bonded and dont want to crack the glass

How does that work, you cant even get a stanley blade between the metal and glass?

The reflective part is held in with some white resin stuff just used a pointed grinding bit job done. Why do you need to separate yours?

I soaked mine in very hot water ,
Seemed soften it up.
Obviously make sure the lens isn't freezing cold.

I used a dremmel on mine also.Have an original carello headlight but the reflector was knackered/rusted/oxidised was advised it wouldn't pass the MOT with it.Used the dremmel with the grinding wheel and very carefully ground the metal down in a few places,enough to get a stanley knife the free it off the reflector.New reflector from scooter restos ,clear bathroom silicon , big heavy book on on it over night.good as new

Have been given a complete SX headset for a old seat and petrol tank i had. The Chrome surround is a perfect fit and in good nick but needs re-chroming, the reflector also needs re-chroming so was going to get both done at the same time.

I was hoping i could seperate the 2 without damaging the reflector and then put it back together once i had it chromed. I wouldnt have an issue seperating them with a dremmel or similar if i didnt want to keep the reflector but i do so i guess ill try and soak it an then try a new blade in there.

If i fail ill take it to wickstead tomorrow and try and find a matching reflector.

Sidf, it is quite possible to seperate them without destroying either. The substance used to join then is some form of putty which will have set like rock. I seperated mine by gently prizing back the edge of the reflector (its folded over the putty) to expose the white putty substance. Then I used a selection of screwdrivers, knives, spikes and scrapers to dig the putty out. Took me an hour or so but the 2 parts seperated ok.
