What oil should be used on a foam air filter?

How important is the oil on the filter? I'm thinking with all the oily crap that generates around a Lammie engine with the panels on some of that would stick to the filter :?

Well, from what i`ve read/led to believe,it`s the oil that prevents crap entering the carb not the foam! So i guess when fitting a new one or after cleaning its a good idea to coat it with oil!

Once you see the shite that flushes out of a foam filter dont think I would go back to an open carb set up.

I clean mine with white spirit and re-oil with the stuff recommended above. All I can say is that from experience I find the foam filter traps more crap with oil than without.
