DIY PX200 engine rebuild

The clutch on my PX200 judders / snatches occasionally when it is let out, especially at high revs, and clunks when changing into a different gear, so I am planning to dismantle and rebuild the engine. I guess a new clutch is required and other bits.
In the past I have done engine rebuilds on other bikes and classic minis and more recently put a recon injector pump on a diesel vectra but apart from a lack of confidence on my part would you consider the dismantling and rebuilding of my PX200 engine a DIY proposition?

When I bought it I was told the engine hadn't done many miles since a full rebore and rebuild with a receipt to prove showing loads of bits fitted (I asume the bits were fitted to the scoot I bought!!) The engine does pull well it's just the clutch and gearchange problems which need sorting.

So is it a big job? and what parts and tools will I need? -apart from a Haynes manual!!

Sounds like a normal Vespa to me!!

Clunking gears is the norm not the exception and a snatching clutch on pulling away with high revs is inevitable on most Vespas.

Being a total spanner nugget i bought these DVDs as even the Haynes manual confused me!

Spoke to Ian on the phone first , bought the dvds spot on for absolute beginners like me. Well worth the money.

Basic rebuild of PX200 is so easy that you could do it in the dark while being drunk. Symptoms suggest that the cush drive springs might be broken, drilling the rivets out and assembling new ones can be pain in the arse.

There's a really good chance that it's just the clutch causing all your problems and you might not need to split the cases. I find a lot of times it's just the brass pieces in the clutch that cause the lurching.

I agree with hobospeed . I doubt a full engine strip is required . You could spend alot of time replacing clutch parts or you could just buy a new genuine one complete . What year is your px ?
