obviously I've never seen it, but I'd imagine there would be fair amount of lash going on, when shutting the throttle, before the gearbox slows down to the same speed as the crank...
I do generally shorten them a bit at each end.
if you do fit one of the nylon bottom guides, make sure it is carved about enough to allow the chain to run straight...

out. after witnessing one snap, and jam the chain solid, on woodys 225 rapido on the way to lincoln for the euro, and it locking the engine solid with no warning, i"m never fitting one again. the uprated top chain guide is all i fit.
probably a better bet would be to fit one of the Teflon ones if only to stop the chain damaging the case

Doesn't fitting a 'pull down' top chain guide negate the need for a bottom one?

There are only some who are smarter than the Innocenti engineers..
So, use both, it's better value for money(if bought as a pair)... and as intended by the said engineers.
And just to reinforce the point, would you remove a chain guide from your car?
