"Will" (the owner ) has asked me to remove and strip the engine to rectify the above probs ,also i.ll be doing the porting work to match the barrel to the casings ,and lowering the exhaust port to match up with the piston at BDC.
I am also tempted and inclined to rework the crankshaft and inlet to ensure 360 degrees of inlet timing ..
however ,my main concern will be to try and raise that torque figure from 13 ft/lbs to something more user/rider friendly as should be expected by the extra CCs of this motor .
sorry to sound a bit vague ,but it all depends on what i find when i get in there ..so gonna strip it tomorrow and will keep you posted. :D

Sean.
In the name of fair play don't you think you should retest it with a 'proper exhaust' fitted before you rip the engine apart and PEP's reputation with it?

a different exhaust may well produce different power and torque figures for sure and hopefully improve these so what is recomended exactly by PEP to ensure the 25 bhp results ? surely and in the absence of more specific info one can only assume that a malossi pipe is designed to work best with a malossi kit ...so what would you recomend spanish fly and why ?,but whatever pipe you choose it sure wont cure the faults that lie within the gearbox etc ...only make them worse i think
and further more ,I am no more than an independant party in this just reporting back to my customer my own results and findings ...and i have no vested interest at all in destroying other folks reputation at all...
and why would i do so ?
my advice to "will "today was to firstly return the engine to them for further inspection and any needed repairs/modifications etc as its they that built it and they that were paid for it ...and i,m sure that they would take care of all this because any issues between them and their customers are their responsability, and not mine at all.
all ive done is what i was asked to do ...plumb it in ,cable it up ...get it running (with the supplied parts ) and dyno it and report back ...and thats what i,ve done . :D

It's a shame that the gearbox issues have got in the way of the original query of how close it will get to 25PS without case and crank porting/flowing.
With that exhaust it's got no chance.
With a JL Right hander and a fettled transmission it's going to get a fair bit closer. Isn't it :?:

Would you volunteer to pay for the second engine strip and build?

The gearbox and other bits need fixing. Whilst there (I'm assuming) Sean is going to do the case matching, etc. for the customer - doubtless at the customer's request.
There seems little point fixing the gearbox and putting it back together to 'test' it with a different exhaust, just to satisfy the curiosity of a handful of people on a forum. Two rebuilds is twice as much money.. Sean does this for a living - it's how he clothes and feeds his family - it's his living. Why would he do two rebuilds for the price of one?
I doubt anyone else would work for free for half a day, so that a handful of people can look on a forum for five or six seconds and think ahh.. yeah.. he was right.. hoorah.

Sean isn't doing a university thesis I understand that. Unfortunately commercial activities must take priority at the place where "the minds of the scootering world collide".
Ah well maybe I'm just an old romantic. ;)

You're not stumping up the cash for an extra rebuild then?

Of course not. If the client is happy to pay for significant metal removal which may, or may not make a difference, who am I to stand in his way? ;)
