Just to update this. Replaced the pick up with a genuine Vespa one tonight. No difference.

I'll give AF a call tomorrow and see if they have heard of this problem on one of their later light flywheels

Yep, it's definitely the light one.

I should be getting hold of another flywheel over the weekend, so I'll give that a go and see whether that indicates that the problem is flywheel related.

I've spoken to AF who did say this has happened before with their light flywheels and Ducati CDIs which are designed to run on low"ish" revving Vespas. They do an "AFR" CDI which they believe may solve the issue. To be fair to them they did warn me of this when I bought the flywheel 18 months ago. Anyway, I've got one of them on order too.

Thanks again for the ideas

definitly the flywheel - had the exact same problem with mine a few years ago - and was at 6000 rpm aswell

changed allsorts
machined magflange / flywheel etc trying all permutations

read all the forum info - there was a great thread on this i think on the old lcgb site - some guy really looked into it

in the end i put a normal sil flywheel on and voila! - all problems gone, just a load of spare duplicated ignition parts i'd bought

Errr....what about T5's, they must rev to 8 or 9k or so surely? The CDI on mine 'looked' exactly the same as any other Ducatti CDI except that it was black :?
