Chaincase Breather?

Do these have any sort of filter in them?

Mine does - a disc with a half moon cut out holding what looks like a tuft of fibreglass if that's any help - can't say if that's the norm mind.

Thanks desi, I think it is normal to have that inside mine has it too.
Can this be taken out and cleaned?

the original ones had wire wool inside- these tended to block easily over the years, thus creating pressure in the crank case (= possible blown seals). I've always tended to remove the wire wool in its entirety, thus allowing the crankcase to "breath". No real problems with oil coming out.

never thought about that!!

To be honest, the hole is pretty small, and you stand more chance if you run an open mouthed carb IMO.

I use a small twist drill to pull out the wire wool; flush it through with parafin, then replace on crankcase.
