Got an S1 rebuild coming up. Is the hump in the inlet port neccessary to keep? I see no reason for it. It's not like it's an early Vespa motor with a deflector piston or anything else equally silly
I've got that grindy feeling.
That's not going anywhere...
Just check first where the lower piston ring sits at BDC before removing the hump from the inlet port.

Hey pal, Im on the same boat. Just got a fresh innocenti S1 125 with perfect patina and great potential for rustoration. Its going to be lovely. Owner wants it original down to the 125 cylinder (even after I threatened for long queues of cars whenever he is attempting to take it to the beach!)
Aparently the lug in the middle of the inlet port is something that the S1's where born with and it spread out to our S2's... Our S2's have loads of S1 parts mixed along with S3 parts... Strange world the Eibar produced Lammies...
Regards Mighty Lopez, Rob will be swinging by here in a couple of days I will salute him on your behalf!

Buy Rob a drink or something
I haven't checked ring placement at bdc yet as per Jims, but I think the problem may actually be ring peg placement. If all looks good, that hump is coming out.
I have also talked my customer into the later style mag flange. Not to keen on carbon getting in a brand new bearing. There's a reason they changed the earlier type to a later type
