Powerjet Carbs
Ive been told today that powerjet carbs are no good for reedvalve engines IS THAT TRUE ??

Not compleatly true, although you do seem to need to run them on a engine that requires alot of air/fuel if its got a reed valve, i know of severel lads [myself included] that use them on RBs. I also know of some that cant get them to work on piston ported engines, the old Amal PJs seem,d to work well on anything, what i would advise is if you fit one, dyno it, to make sure the PJ does work, as you cant see them working by looking into the carb, all you,ll see is a haze of fuel.gadgetman wrote:Ive been told today that powerjet carbs are no good for reedvalve engines IS THAT TRUE ??

eibargum...do any of your mates run a TMX 30 on an Imola 186...jet settings ?..Peter

No they dont Peter, sorry
, i have had some contact with lads that have tryed the TMX30 PJ on standerd TS1s and have gone back to standerd carbs as they were unsure if the PJ worked properly on them, i know they work on some tuned TS,s, RB20s and 22s, the inlets on RBs are huge, maybe this works in there favor, be carefull with your Imola Peter, regards, Gary.

i did hear a guy on here or another forum moaning they'd blown up a ts1 with a mikuni and power jet set up. The thing was- he blew it up below half throttle!!
The poor carb didnt know it had a power jet at that point!!! I think he later discovered that it was more than likely to be his cylinder head leaking when he undone one of the nuts by hand

Most holed pistons happen below half throttle and a correctly set up carb with powerjet can affect this as smaller main jets can be used and needles, slides and pilots can be adjusted for the perfect set up. Power jets aren't just for full throttle, they can help with cruising too. This is where experience and a good dyno operator are worth their weight.
Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!
