i saw your posting regarding brazing nuts onto a pair of drum links. i have a set of these and would like to TIG weld on the hardware to make these accept dampers. i recall years ago seeing in scootering that there was a shop that had made up a jig for doing this. my question for you is what did you use to determine the location on the link?
thanks

Rob,

I hope you don't mind me taking your pm and making it into thread on this subject.

Whether others think it was a good idea to braze these damper brackets on or not (to be honest, there haven't been any bad posts, but it seems that people prefer TIG), I thought I would explain how I jigged the lower damper brackets in place.

Rob asked how I decided on the location of the lower brackets, and I was able to do this because I had some bolt-on items that I used for comparision. I hope the photos help you see where they should be locacated.

I intended to use 8mm bolts to secure the bottom of the of my dampers, so I used long M8 nuts, similar to the ones that come on the top of the barrel. You have the slice the bottom of the long nut

I'm sure braising em will be fine-anyone? Only downside would be getting them plated? Can you chrome over the braise?

One problem I see is; what's stopping the hooks(where the axel goes thru) from bending outwards during the welding process?

When I go back to work on Monday,I'll bring home the jig I made, might clear the above up.

LG,

I just don't think that it is getting that hot during the brazing process. There is no lateral force on the links during the welding, so it won't bend.
